Calling all youths! 

The Brunei Youth Council (BYC) is inviting everyone to participate in the upcoming 11th ASEAN Youth Forum that is slated to take place from 5 – 27 August 2021 in conjunction with the National Youth Day. 

Holding the theme “Future Ready in the New Normal”, this edition of the forum is aimed at formulating ideas and recommendations on how to elevate the role of ASEAN youth.

Especially in realising sustainable development and ensuring preparedness of ASEAN youth for future challenges such as the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and opportunities such as entrepreneurship with regards to the new normal and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The forum is open to ASEAN citizens and permanent residents between 18 and 30 years old. 

The forum will be a hybrid event, joined physically by participants from Brunei Darussalam at the International Convention Centre (ICC) and the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas whilst delegates from other ASEAN member states will be joining virtually via a web platform.

The ASEAN Youth Forum aims to be the voice of youths where participants will be able to produce their own research and present their findings based on the respective theme.

There will be three subthemes during the forum namely; education, digital economy and youth and community. 

It will commence on 5 August with a virtual orientation where participants will be briefed about the whole programme. 

The first theme is slated to start on 8 August, touching on education through a workshop on “Education in the New Decade: Thinking Outside the Box” which will be followed by a group discussion. 

Moreover, the second theme on 13 August will allow participants that are attending the event physically to have a site visit followed by a virtual workshop and a discussion on employment on 15 August. 

As for the final theme, the youths will be going for another site visit on 20 August and a workshop focusing on the role of youth in community and a nation/region-building workshop will take place on 22 August. 

Results of the discussions throughout the forum will be presented during the closing ceremony on 27 August. 

Participants will also be contributing to the 2021 ASEAN Youth Statement and the ASEAN Zine.

The 11th ASEAN Youth Forum is co-organised by BYC and ASEAN Youth Advocates Network Brunei and supported by Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).
