Fourteen professionals across Brunei’s financial sector are currently in Makkah, Saudi Arabia for their five-day Executive Islamic Finance Workshop.

The training which began on April 28 aimed to give participants from Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB) and Insurans Islam TAIB (IITSB) a deeper insight on Islamic finance.

This include learning more about contemporary issues surrounding Islamic finance, looking critically on the prospects of financial technology for the Islamic finance industry, Islamic modes of financing, Sukuk structures and related legal policies and frameworks.

Among experts facilitating the course include Chief Financial Officer of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr Zamir Iqbal, IRTI’s Acting Director General Dr Sami Al-Suwailem and Senior Researcher and Acting Manager at IRTI’s Research Division Dr Dawood Ashraf.

The training which is slated to end on May 2 represents the third collaboration between Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and Brunei’s Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM).  It was also held with the support of AMBD.
