Brunei Darussalam’s 16th National Youth Day will be taking place this Saturday, 7th August at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas with the celebrations highlighting four aspects of “Future Ready Youth” namely; digital technology, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
During a press conference at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) recently, it was shared that this year’s National Youth Day celebrations will retain the same theme as in 2019 and 2020, “Future Ready Youth” which acknowledges the youths’ role as a driver of national development.
Similar to previous years, the 16th National Youth Day 2021 will culminate in a grand event held at the ICC with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddien Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam expected to be present during the celebration.
The National Youth Day awards will also be making a return this year, celebrating award recipients from 2020 as well as 2021 through four main categories namely; the Excellent Youth Award, Youth Service Award, Youth Leader Award and Outstanding Youth Project Award.
Alongside the National Youth Day awards, the celebratory event on Saturday will also feature a Youth Day Exhibition and the Brunei Youth Convention 2021 which will run for three days, from 7th until 9th August.
The Brunei Youth Convention 2021 will kick-off with the third edition of the Youth Town Hall in the afternoon at the Main Conference Hall, which is an initiative organised by the MYCS and the Young Professionals Network (YPN), holding the theme “Future Ready: Scaling New Heights”.
This edition of the Youth Town Hall will be focussing on the importance of developing youth that are “well-skilled, adaptable, resilient and employable, who can be the agents of change, excellent in their respective fields and competitive globally”.
“The youth of the future are holistic youth, not only excellent in education, personality and spirituality; but also skilled, innovative and creative youth in line with the rapid progress of various fields,” the ministry said in a statment.
“A Future Ready Youth is a world-class youth who acts as an agent of change and is ready for the future of the nation’s development which is rooted in inclusion,” they added.
To end the 16th National Youth Day 2021 celebration, a Youth Bus Programme is to be held from 14th to 18th September 2021.
Present at the press conference was Permanent Secretary (Administration, Finance and Estate) Pg Mohd Amirrizal Pg Hj Mahmud, as the Joint Secretary of the 16th National Youth Day Celebration Supreme Committee.
Also in attendance were several members of the working committee for the 16th National Youth Day Celebration of 2021 including Acting Director of Youth and Sports, Mariam Ulat, Youth Day Exhibition Coordinator, Dr Nuriskandar Mohd Hasnan and Coordinator of the Brunei Youth Convention, Muhd Amirul Syazmie Ibrahim.
