Brunei Shell Petroleum Company (BSP) and National Oil Spill Contingency Plan Management Committee (NOSCOP MC) recently conducted a live exercise on the Tier 2 Oil Spill Response in Seria.
The exercise was held to test both BSP’s Incident Management Team and Crisis Management Team.
In a statement from BSP, the objectives of the exercise were to strengthen the existing relationship between NOSCOP MC and BSP and to test interface between various agencies that are involved in an oil spill response.
The oil spill response was deployed at two sites; firstly, at E22 beachfront for the onshore cleanup and at the river mouth nearby the Billionth Barrel Monument for offshore response.
The BSP oil spill response team was supported by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Police Force, the Brunei Fire and Rescue Department and National Disaster Management committee, among others, under the incident management of NOSCOP MC.
Present to observe the exercise was Minister of Communications Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof.
The minister also got to witness the afternoon exercise that took place at the Crisis Suite at BSP Head Office.
The country crisis management team in BSP focuses on the safeguarding of the reputation of BSP and its shareholders.
