Horizons Restaurant returns for the annual Brunei December Festival with a more ambitious Singapore Food Festival program, offering more than 80 Kampong-styled Singapore cuisines until December 16.

The two weeks-long festival will feature an array of scrumptious traditional and contemporary Singaporean Malay delicacies created from the finest ingredients: Ikan Masak Sambal Hijau, Braised Lamb with homemade sauce, Udang Belado, Sayur Lodeh, just to name a few.

For the ultimate Singaporean cuisine experience, diners will get a chance to choose from the irresistible temptations of live stalls such as Nyonya Curry Laksa stall, Nasi Lemak Singapore with Sambal Sotong stall, Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice stall and many more.

The restaurant is offering a blend of authentic and compelling cultural experiences specially prepared by Ismail Didih and Maria Didih from Singapore’s most highly acclaimed Malay restaurant, Hjh Maimunah Restaurant flown in by Singapore Tourism Board.

Ismail and Maria have both been running the show at Hjh Maimunah Restaurant, as well as the kitchen, since at a very young age.

Remaining true to its tradition, the restaurant has served exceptional Singapore Malay cuisine for 26 years which won the restaurant its first Michelin Bib Gourmand Awards 2016.

Another dish worth every calorie is Hjh Maimunah’s signature Tauhu Telur, a delicious comforting fried tofu and egg mix adorned with sliced vegetables and grated peanuts.

Chef Ismail Didih talks to the Bruneian about the popular Tauhu Telur dish, which he refers to as the star dish of the event:

“It is a traditional recipe which is not found in Brunei. A simple dish that requires a lot of technique. So this festival is a good time you can taste it if you haven’t before,”

“We love to share our culinary knowledge and skills to people. So there’s no secret in our kitchen” he added.

To spice up the event, invited chefs Ismail and Maria conducted a two-hour cooking class for 10 lucky guests during the Brunei December Festival yesterday.

Among the dishes demonstrated were signature dishes of Hjh Maimunah Restaurant Singapore which includes Tauhu Telur, Badak Berendam, and Chili Crab.

“Not everybody in Brunei will have the chance to fly to Singapore during the holidays, so we brought Singapore to you,” said Acting General Manager of Royal Brunei Catering Hj Jeff Hadiman Dato Paduka Hj Danial, in his speech at the launch of the festival last night.

Present to launch the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II.

Throughout the festival week, the Kampung-Style Singaporean Buffet will be available every Monday – Wednesday, from 7pm to 10pm until with prices at $24.90 for adults and $12.90 for children.  Thursday – Sunday, it’s only $29.90 per adult and $14.90 for children.
