Two Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) account holders brought home $25,000 prize each in the second round of BIBD Aspirasi quarterly draw yesterday.
Luck was on Md Hasnal Hj Mohamad and Nurul ‘Izzati Md Masli’s side when their names and account numbers appeared on the screen during the event held at BIBD Kiulap.
In an interview with The Bruneian, Md Hasnal, an Imam at the SOAS mosque, was exuberant when announced as a winner.
“Alhamdullilah, I am grateful for the award and InshaAllah will put the funds towards helping others in need. The challenge of saving can be overcome with strong discipline and faith,” he said.
Meanwhile, on her part, Nurul ‘Izzati who was in tears at the surprise of receiving such an award said that she wanted to invest the funds back into the Aspirasi programme and bringing her mother for umrah.
“Money can be hard to save with bills to pay. Don’t wait to fall on hard times to save funds, that’s the message I would like to leave” she said when asked about saving up.
The draw also named six other winners who received $2,500 prize each.
The BIBD Aspirasi programme is a flexible savings scheme that rewards customers that maintain their balances for three months minimum, and aims to promote a more financially conscious culture with account holders.
BIBD’s Head of Retail Banking Hjh Nurul Akmar Hj Md Jaafar, in a statement said, that the overwhelming response for the programme is very encouraging for the bank.
“… as it reflects the ‘wants-can-wait’ mindset that this programme is intended to instill in our customers as a needs versus wants financial discipline,” she said.
The BIBD Aspirasi programme will conclude with a grand draw scheduled in September with a remaining $500,000 in total prize funding yet to be won.
On hand to present the prizes was BIBD Deputy Managing Director Hjh Noraini Hj Sulaiman.
