Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) reopened its Temburong branch on Wednesday, designating it as the bank’s Heritage Branch, which features a theme that is in line with the eco-friendly identity of the Green Jewel of Brunei.
To date, BIBD is the only financial institution to maintain a full-time branch in the district, and to commemorate the landmark reopening, a ceremony was held at the branch’s new location, the Bumiputera Complex in Pekan Bangar.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah in his capacity as the Chairman of BIBD and its Group of Companies, noted how the BIBD branch upgrade is in keeping with the district’s development.
“Alhamdulilah, the construction of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Bridge has facilitated communication, travel and the movement of goods between Brunei-Muara and Temburong, and thus has been able to improve the quality of life in both districts,” he said in a speech.

“Its construction is a game-changer in the development of the Temburong district and so far, we can see various ongoing development and rehabilitation projects in the district,” added YB Dato Dr Hj Mohd Amin.
He then commended the role that the Temburong District Development Authority (AKDT) has played in planning, monitoring and facilitating projects which are aimed at providing opportunities both to the local population and MSMEs to enhance the socio-economic development of Temburong.

“Alhamdulilah, this event perfectly illustrates BIBD’s role as a Partner in Progress for the nation,” he continued.
“Through a Whole of Nation approach and close collaboration with AKDT, the Ministry of Home Affairs and other relevant authorities including Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), it is hoped that this project will upgrade the district’s profile as a business and tourist destination,” he added.

Meanwhile, BIBD’s Managing Director and CEO, Mubashar Khokhar said that the reopening of the Heritage Branch highlights the bank’s ongoing commitment to local communities, ensuring that all levels of society are able to access the range of products and services offered by BIBD.
“BIBD has always positioned itself as one of the key drivers of progress and development of the country from various fronts, including our network of branches that has become a hub of innovation and enrichment of customer experience,” he explained.

“This is in keeping with and true to our spirit of being Bruneian at Heart,” he added.
The design of the Heritage Branch is a departure from BIBD’s typical branch concept, as it prominently features lush greenery, making use of the wooden fixtures and features of the Bumiputera Complex, to be more eco-friendly.

The courtyard of the Heritage Branch also has extensive greenery and an open concept, where the space will be used to host various pop-up markets and events in the future in an effort to bring more foot traffic in the area and promote Temburong as a tourism destination.
The upgrading of BIBD’s branch aims to serve all customer segments and provides counter services as well as digital banking services such as Cash Deposit Machines (CDM) and Automated Teller Machines (ATM), in line with the bank’s strategic efforts to serve all customer segments throughout the country.
The BIBD Heritage Branch is opened from 8.45am to 4.00pm from Mondays to Thursdays, 8.45am to 11.00am & 2.30pm to 4.00pm on Fridays and 8.45am to 11.15am on Saturday.
