Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has acquired a new marketplace at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) headquarters to be used by its Special Underprivileged Mothers Empowerment Entrepreneurship Development Programme (BIBDSEED) participants.

Located at the building’s Atrium, the new retail space will feature members of BIBDSEED’s second cohort, where three businesses will rotate to occupy the place on a monthly basis.

The first few tenants will be Mazanah Enterprise, Lolok Celup and Curly Mee; all serving their specialty food including Beef and Chicken Rendang; finger foods such as sausages and fishcakes dipped in Tom Yum or Cheese sauce; as well as Belutak and Spicy Tuna Spaghetti.

BIBD’s Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Haji Mohammad Yusri Haji Wahsalfelah said the newly launched retail space was meant to equip participants with first-hand and real-life entrepreneurship experiences.

“Through this marketplace, participants will have ‘a level playing field’ where they could compete healthily with established businesses currently based there. This can also be a stepping stone for them to grow further,” he said.

“It will also test their resolve to apply the knowledge and skills they learnt from the previous phases, which include applying pricing, marketing, communications and other strategies to sell and promote their products,” he added.

Haji Mohammad Yusri thanked the government for its support and assistance to further develop the BIBDSEED programme.

“The provision of this new retail space symbolises the huge support of MoFE in collaborating with BIBD to empowering the underprivileged to become successful entrepreneurs. This also reflects our commitment and dedication to become the nation’s partner in progress,” he said
