Community for Brunei, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam’s CSR initiative to support medical frontliners has been reactivated announced Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah during a press conference on Thursday.

“Community for Brunei was launched during the height of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam; the platform’s first initiative, Community for Covid,
supported micro enterprises by enabling members of the public to purchase donations for medical front-liners which were delivered directly to the various health facilities,” said the minister who is also Chairman of BIBD.

“Now with the sudden resurgence of COVID-19, Community for Brunei is once again ready to support the community by inviting members of the public to donate in a manner that is secure, transparent and completely contactless,” he continued.

Community for Brunei has opened a dedicated centralised platform to facilitate volunteerism activities and registration in order to help the community combat the challenges of COVID-19 in Brunei.

In light of recent developments in the COVID-19 situation in Brunei, frontliners will now be working round the clock in managing the pandemic and may run short of manpower and resources in doing so.

First launched in April last year, the platform was also recently revamped and now features a new digital donation and an enhanced volunteerism features.

The platform will enable non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) to raise funds through a digital platform.

Members of the public who visit the Community for Brunei platform will be able to see which NGO’s are currently raising funds, where these funds will be channeled to and how much is required for the NGO’s to meet their goals.

Several NGO’s are raising funds to channel donations towards supporting medical frontliners at the National Isolation Centre in Tutong, as well as the various vaccination centres nationwide. These includes supplies such as scrubs, food and daily essentials.

Moreover, all the NGO’s who are raising funds on the platform have obtained approvals from the appropriate agencies and the digital payment methods used for donation are safe and secure.

Currently, FERA Nursing and Healthcare is raising funds through the platform, specifically catered at supporting medical frontliners.

The Brunei Red Crescent Society is also currently welcoming donation of face masks, but donations of other forms to frontliners are also highly encouraged.

Additionally, members of the public can also sign up to volunteer their time to join forces in assisting non-governmental organisations such as the Brunei Red Crescent Society and Sukarelawan Belia manage the pandemic.

Among the NGOs listed on the platform also includes Eco Ponies Garden, Kilang Reroot, Reef Check, Paws Up and Sejahtera Community.

According to Chief Marketing Officer at BIBD Hjh Nurul Akmar Hj Mohd Jaafar, Community for Brunei is fast evolving into a community-driven and social responsibility platform compared to when it was launched as an online marketplace when COVID-19 first broke out in Brunei last year.

The Chief Marketing Officer further said that the financial institution has helped mobilise a lot of resources during the fight against the pandemic in 2020.

However for this time, as the COVID-19 situation developed more seriously, more frontliners and resources are needed to provide for these respective areas.

“We hope the platform will make it easy for volunteers to sign up and enroll themselves to support our frontliners who will be working tirelessly during this time. They will appreciate the help now more than ever as the current pandemic situation is more volatile than last year,” she continued.

The officer concluded that BIBD hopes that via the platform, Bruneians can join together to help frontliners and the nation to overcome COVID-19 once again.

Organisations that are interested in being a part of Community for Brunei, and members of the public who would like to support these causes are invited to visit www.communityforbrunei.com for more information.
