BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Secretariat for the Brunei ICT Award (BICTA) 2018 has introduced BICTA Plus; a boot camp aimed towards equipping shortlisted candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge before entering their inventions into the actual award.
This was disclosed in a press conference led by the secretariat’s co-head, Hj Jailani Hj Buntar, who is also the deputy chief executive of Authority for Info-Communications and Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) yesterday.
The boot camp will see prospective candidates being given step-by-step guidance on how to properly market and pitch their products, with trainers and facilitators being selected from different backgrounds to give holistic views on how to properly manage related processes.
Registration for this boot camp was opened yesterday, and will end May 5, according to BICTA’s official website.
The BICTA Plus boot camp will begin May 8 and will end July 31, the same duration for which the BICTA secretariat will start receiving entries for the BICTA 2018.
BICTA is an annual award hosted since 2004 by the Ministry of Communications and organised by AITI and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB).
This year’s BICTA carries the theme “Digital Generation with a Vision”, emphasising the importance of encouraging a generation of digital natives, potential driving force for Brunei to achieve its Vision 2035.
Three categories will be contested this year; the school category for students at secondary schools; tertiary for students at Higher Learning Institutions; and ICT Industry for participations from individuals and ICT related businesses.
This year will also see the Royal Patron award being given to the “best of the best” product amongst all categories, which will be presented by His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office during the BICTA award ceremony slated for August 30.
As in previous years, the top two from each category will represent Brunei in the upcoming Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards, to be held in Guangzhou, China later this year.
