Mark your calendar this weekend for the BIMP-EAGA Tertiary Industry Forum Showcase 2019 & World Halal Culinary Championship 2019 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.

The event is organised by Brunei Darussalam BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BD-BEBC) and slated to take place from November 10-12, starting from 10am to 10pm.

Head of SME Development at BD-BEBC Captain (Rtd) Zailan Pehin Datu Kerma Setia Major (Rtd) Dato Seri Laila Jasa Mohd Don, in a press conference recently, said that the showcase will include the signing of eight agreements with various business partners in BIMP-EAGA countries.

The deals are hoped to further enhance cooperation in areas of within logistics, payment gateway, marketing and e-commerce platform, among others.

From the showcase, the event is beneficial to countries in the BIMP-EAGA region through Brunei as the only whole country that provides 100 per cent Syariah compliance products and services.

Some 48 vendors are expected to participate in the two-day event to promote products from countries such as Malaysia, including Sabah and Sarawak, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Visitors will have the chance to taste various food samples from each booth as well as some cooking demonstrations.

Moreover, the first-ever World Halal Culinary Championship 2019 as part of the BIMP-EAGA Culinary Challenge will also be taking place simultaneously with the showcase.

Thirty-six individuals and 12 teams are expected to compete against one another during the event comprising of professional chefs from Brunei and international countries.

All teams will need to cook within two hours to prepare appetizers, main course and desserts. What makes the challenge exciting is the finale.

Finalists will be presented with a surprise box in the Black Box challenge where they will prepare a dish from the secret ingredients within a limited time.

The champion will receive $2,000 cash prize, while the second and third place winners will receive $1,500 and $500, respectively.
