In a statement, President of the Brunei Darussalam Teqball Association, Mohd Shukri Hj Damit expressed his excitement for the opportunity of bringing the newly emerging sport to the sultanate.

Teqball Brunei is currently the governing body that has been officiated by the International Federation of Teqball (FITEQ) to promote the sport in Brunei Darussalam.

“Teqball is a fairly new sport that’s steadily gaining interest and this mini-tournament was a great opportunity to showcase it to the Bruneian public,” he said.

Teqball is a contactless sport that was founded in 2012 and combines elements of football and table tennis.

In a game of best-to-three sets, Teqball can be played between two (singles) or four (doubles) players on a curved table called the Teq Table, a synonymous element of the fledgling sport that was conceived to help the ball bounce to the foot.

Brunei Darussalam Teqball Association was established in 2020 to address the increasing appetite for the new sport in the local scene.

One of the main goals of the Brunei Darussalam Teqball Association is to discover and develop local Teqball athletes, officers and coaches with hopes of identifying and nurturing athletes that will eventually represent Brunei Darussalam in any international Teqball championships.

“At this point, every Teqball player in the world is still in the midst of developing their skills, so we start now, there is potential for a Bruneian team to win in international tournaments because everyone else is still building up,” said Shukri in a previous interview.
