Brunei will be hosting its first ever regional kickboxing tournament in its bid to encourage locals to take up martial arts sports as a career.
The two-day amateur K1 kickboxing contest which is to be held at the Airport Mall from November 10 – 11 will see 80 fighters from various gyms competing head to head with one another.
Event organiser Strike Promotions said in a press conference recently that the event was held to serve as a platform for fighters to gain international exposure and to promote Brunei as a destination for sports tourism.
Strike Promotions also aimed to host similar tournaments regularly to identify potential contenders and offer them skill development programmes and schemes so they can represent Brunei to compete in regional multi-sports event including SEA games and ASEAN games.
Rising talents in the sultanate will have to push through the line of skilled kick-boxers from Malaysia during the event which is slated to start from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and 10pm to 6pm the following day.
The main event on Sunday at 8pm onwards will see three semi-pro K1 kick-boxing bouts between fighters from Brunei and Malaysia with an exhibition match also prepared to delight the audience.
Ring-side seats at the tournament will be available for purchase for $5 per session during the event itself. There will be four sessions on the first day, and three sessions on the final day.
The tournament is sanctioned by the International Sports Kickbocing Association (ISKA) and the Brunei Darussalam Boxing Association supported by Ministry of Culture, Youth and the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism.
Additionally, event partner Kaleidoscope Studio will also be organising a “Fit 2 Fight” expo, featuring exhibitors including Café Bene, Bruactiv, Poni Divers, Aewon and Mahkota Cystal.
