Heads of tourism organisations across ASEAN recently gathered at The Empire Brunei in Jerudong for the 51st ASEAN National Tourism Organisation (NTO) meeting.
Chaired by Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism’s Permanent Secretary Pengiran Haji Kamalrudzaman Pengiran Haji Mohd Ishak, the session amongst all aimed to find the best ways on how the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan (ATSP) 2016-2025 could be implemented.
The permanent secretary outlined several matters that need to be discussed, particularly on things that could contribute well to the progress and development of ASEAN tourism.
This, he said, include regional collaboration, joint cooperation amongst ASEAN partners, sustainable and inclusive development for ASEAN destinations.
The meeting also reviewed the ASEAN tourism performance from 2018 to 2019 and discussed further cooperation with ASEAN bodies, dialogue partners including Plus Three, India and Russia.
The meeting was also part of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), which brought the theme ‘ASEAN – Together Towards a Next Generation of Travel’.
The week-long event will include a three-day Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) showcase scheduled to start January 14.
Some 1,000 tourism officials and exhibitors are expected to participate in meetings and social functions, including the presence of international and local media representatives.
