Over 500 participants took part in the inaugural Brunei Run 2020 last weekend which kicked off at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, running across 10km and 5km routes around the capital.
The inaugural running event started with a pre-race warm-up session conducted by Victorious for 15 minutes followed by the 10km and 5km Men’s and Women’s Open flag offs.
Runners made their way towards the picturesque Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge crossing the Brunei River via the 622 metre-long bridge as well as passing through Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.
The early morning breeze and mesmerising sunrise made their run smooth and easy, further uplifting their spirit to make their way back to the field.
In less than an hour after starting the race, the run officials and other members of the public welcomed the top 12 runners at the finishing line.
Khairul Anwar Ramli completed his 10km Men’s Open race at just 36.42 minutes, making him the winner for that category.
Meanwhile, Abd Malik and Fakrul Wafi each secured second and third places completing the run at 38.13 minutes and 44.01 minutes, respectively.
“This is not my first time joining (a running event) and not my first win too. I love it (running) and I would not be possible without the support from my trainer and running friends,” he said.
He added: “For those who aspire to run, you need to train daily and what’s important you must have the drive and better your performance in every time you train.”
The 10km Women’s Open saw Khimmy Siaw reached the last stop at 45.41 minutes followed by Vanessa On at 46.30 minutes and Kathryn Deuerlein at 47.53 minutes.
In the 5km Men’s Open, Iman Syazwi claimed the first place after completing the race at 18.25 minutes with the first-runner up Haziq Syazwan coming in close at just 18.28 minutes. While the third-place winner Hj Jupli Hj Pangis finished at 19.14 minutes.
Chloe Clarke led the Women’s Open category with her finishing time at 23.53 minutes. Yasrinnur Yakub came in second at 25.24 minutes and Nurul Jannah Anuar completed her race at 27.26 minutes.
Winners each received a cash prize, placement medals and Brooks footwear while all 10km runners who successfully completed the race were given finishers tee and medals.
For Ak Shari Addeni Pg Tajuddin, the Chairperson for the Brunei Run 2020 AKIF Media Marketing & Event, the team was delighted to host the inaugural event being the first running event in 2020 in Brunei.
