The tropics of Brunei are about to have a spring awakening as the country organizes the first Brunei International Flower Show (BIFS 2019) in conjunction with Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha’s birthday.

Ready your flower crowns because from October 23 until 27, the BIFS will take place simultaneously at Rimba Garden Central and the Rimba Horticulture Centre in Kg Rimba, Gadong in a five-day event spectacular.

A number of activities have been lined up for the enjoyment of kids as well as adults. From fun quizzes, a floral scavenger hunt, a farmer’s market to floral crafting and terrarium workshops, visitors will be spoilt for choice.

Holding the theme ‘Brunei in Bloom’, expect a rich display of radiant blossoms that will take your breath away with floral installations designed by agriculturists beyond Brunei that are ready to dazzle and amaze.

The BIFS 2019 is an initiative that is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) through collaboration between the Tourism Development Department and the Department of Agriculture and Agri-food.

Permanent Secretary cum Secretary of the BIFS Steering Committee, Hj Kamalrudzaman Pg Hj Mohd Ishak said that the ministry wants to turn the flower festival into a yearly event, in hopes that it would be a welcome addition to the sultanate’s ever expanding repertoire of tourism products.

“Among the main objectives of the BIFS 2019 is to further promote the floriculture industry in Brunei Darussalam. Hopefully, this can help bolster the industry’s output so that it can contribute to the country’s GDP”.

The flower festival will also enable local florists and agriculturists to expand their markets through business matching opportunities among the participating entrepreneurs, including those from overseas.

With the inclusion of the BIFS 2019 in the sultanate’s list of annual events, and the growing number of tourists coming into Brunei, MPRT is hoping that the flower festival would be able to generate employment opportunities for locals.

The Brunei International Flower Show will kick off with a launching ceremony on Wednesday morning, 23rd October and will officially be opened from 2pm until 9 pm. From October 24th to 27th, the festival will be open to the public from 8am until 9pm.

To further enliven the event, visitors are encouraged to dress in their most colourful floral prints throughout the five-day festival.

So what are you waiting for? Save the date and witness Brunei Darussalam erupt in a burst of blooms.
