Brunei teams from Ma’had Islam Brunei and Chung Hwa Middle School (BSB) achieved two merit awards in the prestigious Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2019 recently in Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, Vietnam.
They won the awards under the Senior Student Category with their projects titled “Rubbish On Demand (ROD)” and “Tyran Maton”, respectively.
A total of 324 entry nominations from 16 member economies competed in 25 categories held from November 18 – 22 and this year, Brunei sent seven teams comprising winners and selected runners up from the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2019.
They were Muappy Enterprise, Buycour Marketing Services, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Neuroker Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Ma’had Islam Brunei, Berakas Secondary School and Chung Hwa Middle School (BSB).
Since 2008, Brunei’s participation in APICTA has achieved two winner awards and 27 merit awards to date.
There are three types of awards in APICTA competition, namely Winner, Merit and Recognition Awards.
The Winner Award is the best of the best in each APICTA category, while Merit is awarded to entry nominations who have achieved the qualified score for that particular award of each category.
Recognition Award is presented for encouragement to a member economy whose entries are not awarded any Winner or Merit Award.
Facilitated by AITI and Infocom Federation Brunei (IFB), the country’s participation in APICTA is fully supported by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) as a continuous initiative to stimulate innovation and creativity in ICT by encouraging individuals, students and businesses to compete at the international level.
On hand to welcome the delegation home last week at the Brunei International Airport was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications and Co-Chairman I of BICTA 2019 Steering Committee Haji Mohammad Nazri Haji Mohammad Yusof.
Also in attendance were present were Chairman of IFB Sheikh Haji Abas Sheikh Mohammad and Co-Chairman II of BICTA 2019 Steering Committee as Head of Brunei Darussalam’s Delegation to APICTA 2019 Haji Jailani Haji Buntar, Acting Chief Executive of the Authority for InfoCommunications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) as well as senior officials from MTIC, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs and AITI.
