The Brunei Darussalam Archery Association (BDAA) will be scouting for skilled archers to join its ranks in its first national archery event – the BDAA Trophy 2019 which will be held at the Jerudong Sports Complex starting tomorrow.
Ten categories will be contested in the three-day event including Recurve Men Individual, Recurve Female Individual, Compound Open, Traditional Men Individual, Traditional Female Individual, Traditional Demo, Traditional Dynamic, Recurve Team, Traditional Team and Mix Team.
The BDAA Trophy is open for all levels of archers, with the association expecting about 50 to 60 participants altogether.
BDAA representative Ak Muhd Afwi Pg Hj Bakar said public awareness towards the sports have become stronger considering the numerous archery clubs established in the sultanate as of late.
Having clubs such as Asyarif Traditional Archery Academy and the Ar-Rafi Archery Brunei Club around, said the BDAA representative, have inspired the association to promote the sport even further.
“The association was established in 1995 (but) currently there are only nine active members (in the association). However, in the past year we have been getting more active in conducting events such as the BDAA Trophy 2019,” Ak Muhd Afwi said.
“We have also been conducting more training sessions and socialisation events, where we invite different sections of the public, so they get to experience what the sport entails,” he added.
The BDAA aimed to enhance Brunei’s archery skills by becoming a platform for archers to exchange their skills and knowledge.
The ultimate goal for BDAA, he said, is to put local archers on the map by actively seeking opportunities to pitch them with their international counterparts across the region.
At present, the association is planning to send representatives to The Vegas Shoot (Indoor world Series) held in Las Vegas, US in February next year.
