The national football squad started its Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign with a 6-0 loss against Vietnam, pitched as a part of its Group B men’s football match at Binan Stadium.
Brunei slipped by four goals from Vietnam’s striker Ha Duc Chinh followed by a score each by and each by Viet Hung Trieu and Nguyen Trong Hung.
Aminudin Jumat’s boys were helpless in containing the Vietnamese attacks throughout the clash. Some efforts were displayed but proven insufficient for Brunei to really strike fear to their opponents.
With Park Hang-Seo as their coach, Vietnam is virtually the group’s favourites with numerous attacks, high possession and displayed great disciplined in defending.
With the defeat, the national team sits at the bottom of Group B pointless. Brunei will be up against defending champion Thailand next, on November 26.
Besides Vietnam and Thailand, Brunei is also scheduled to fight against Indonesia, Singapore and Laos.
Malaysia and Myanmar on the other hand went to a draw and the same goes to Philippines and Cambodia, in Group A’s match held at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
