Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) had a merriment occasion for its “Salam Syawal BSP” Raya open house earlier today as it celebrated the festive season with some 1,000 guests from the Belait community.
The three-hour event was held at Pusat Insani in Seria.
Present to welcome the guests was the Managing Director of BSP, Dr Ceri Powell, along with the company’s management team.
Guests were treated to a large spread of Malay cuisine and entertained with some activities such as coconut bowling, bahulu eating competition and sinjang styling competion, as well as performances from primary school students.
It was the fourth year that BSP held such open house for the community residing in the oil and gas district as part of its social investment activity. The Raya gathering was aimed at strengthening close ties and enhance goodwill between BSP and the community.
Speaking to The Bruneian, Dr Powell expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Seria and Kuala Belait community for the support given to the company.
“The work that we do in Brunei Shell is in fueling Brunei’s future and we would not be able to do it without the support from the community, and that in terms of many of the employees being our colleagues,” said Dr Powell, who has been staying in the sultanate for the past 15 months.
“Although the community is small but it is interactive and very knowledgeable about the energy industry because Shell has been in Brunei for almost 90 years. Our relations with the community is vitally important for us and Hari Raya is part of the chance to celebrate together,” she added.
