Brunei’s Under-19 squad bowed out from the AFC U-19 Championship as host Cambodia beat them 3-0 at Phnom Penh Olympic Stadium yesterday.
With the elimination, Brunei’s final standing in Group G is at fourth place with only one win and four losses.
The host went all out to secure full points in an attempt to advance to the next round, firing countless attacks against Brunei.
Cambodia needed only 14 minutes to open their account with a goal from Lim Pisoth via a one-two with Suon Neouth.
Brunei’s stoic defence was torn again as an unmarked Keo Uodom scored a header in the 29th minute from a left corner take.
At half time, Brunei was led by two goals and put efforts to defend their side and to find some goals.
The second half went underway as Cambodia intensified their attacks against the resilient Brunei. In response, numerous attempts and shots were fired by Brunei but to no avail.
Taking advantage at the chaotic Bruneian defence in the 85th minute, Cambodia’s Min Ratanak nailed the victory with a goal that stayed 3-0 until the final whistle.
Other match in the same group saw undefeated Malaysia emerged as the group winner as they beat Thailand to qualify automatically for the AFC U-20 Championship in Uzbekistan next year.
The final standing for Group G saw Cambodia finished second, followed by Thailand, Brunei and lastly the winless Northern Mariana Islands.
