The Coffee Bean & Teal Leaf recently held its 11th annual Barista Competition to determine the representative that will go on to represent Brunei in the international rounds to be held in the Philippines.
Held at the One City Mall, the competition saw four finalists in fierce but friendly competition as they pumped out the three qualifiers for the panel of judges, testing their skills in brewing espresso and cappuccinos, as well as creating their own signature drinks, all in the span of fifteen minutes per round.
This year’s four finalists saw Roselina Mat Kassim, Nor Haziqah Hj Hussin, Md Syukri Md Rosli and Nur’ Adlina Rosmin brewing their best for the grand-prize chance to go on to the international rounds.
The energy was abundant as the coffee crafters pure their way through pumping out caffeine cups topped with mountains of milk foam.
Winning first place and also winning for best signature beverage, a beet-root and coffee concoction, was Roselina, followed by Md Syukri, Nur’ Adlina and Nor Haziqah in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd runner up positions.
Overwhelmed, Roslina will not only be going onto the Philippines but also received a Vivo Y95 sponsored by Progresif, among other trinkets.
Senior Operations Manager of PAR Food & Beverages Sharil Sharudin said in a statement on the competition that it “takes skill building, training our baristas and growing their passions very seriously. I am tremendously impressed with the amount of skills our baristas continue to show.”
He added, “we hope we can continue to raise our barista’s confidence in their art through training and exposure in competitions like this.”
The event was also sponsored by Syarikat Andong, Boustead Sdn Bhd, The Body Shop, PDS Abattoir, the Jerudong Park & Country Club and Curve Interior Enterprise.
In addition to the competition, the emcees also announced the opening of their brand-new branch at One City.
Ida Patera, Senior Marketing Manager told The Bruneian that the branch will be different and feature a new look for the brand, along with the unveiling of Coffee Bean’s new coffee bakery offering a selection of specialty breads to complement their beverages as well as a sneak-peek at gourmet selections on their food menu.
Ida also revealed that the brand is also planning on opening a second branch later this year, altho declined to give further details other than the new locations reflecting a new look for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, along with a new logo.
