The first batch of 40 Bruneian Haj pilgrims under Darussalam Holdings left for Saudi Arabia yesterday to perform the annual Haj pilgrimage to Mekah.
In a statement from the company, the pilgrims comprised of 19 males and 21 females who were on board on the Royal Brunei Airlines flight BI4201 to Madinah.
To ensure a hassle-free arrangement are put in place for the pilgrims, the group also includes a medical team and four appointed Haj operators.
Prior to departure, the pilgrims were greeted and sent off by family members and friends who wished them a safe journey.
A doa selamat was recited followed by the Azan while the airplane was preparing for take-off.
The first flight has arrived in Saudi Arabia yesterday afternoon and is expected to return to Brunei on August 13.
Also in attendance at the airport for send-off were the Minister of Religious Affairs YB Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman, Chairman of Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei YB Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awang Halbi Hj Mohd Yussof and Minister of Health YB Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham Haji Jaafar, Charge de-affairs at the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Brunei Hussain Mohammed Al-Dajani along with other officials.
