Local startup firm Empire Solutions has partnered with Starlodge Hotel to run a hospitality skills development programme, which will be open for the public for free.
Through the partnership, Empire Solutions will formulate a six-day course, taking Starlodge Hotel’s officials as its trainers. Upon completion, participants may also be offered a job placement at the hotel subject to their performance.
Empire Solutions’ CEO Shahrulnizam Ismail told The Bruneian that the partnership was the first of its kind to be established, signifying the company’s commitment to play a role in mitigating the country’s rising unemployment rate.
He said the partnership was developed to meet the rising demands for a more skilled and passionate individuals in the hospitality and tourism sector.
“Our recent Legislative Council (LegCo) meeting have highlighted concerns over the rising unemployment rates – the challenge is changing mindsets towards the private sector where most people are not ready to accept them,” he said.
“The salaries are often smaller for example. It is up to both the government and private sector to motivate towards changing that mentality,” he added.
With the first partnership signed, Empire Solutions now shifted its focus on the ongoing negotiation with the Youth Development Centre to establish a similar collaboration.
