The Brunei Food Awards and Syarikat Masia hosted the frying of the first largest National Record Tumpi in Brunei on Friday at the Pasar Pelbagai Barangan Gadong, as part of the 37th national day celebration. 

Tumpi is a traditional Bruneian food made from flour, served with various dips and gravy such as chicken curry, rendang and condensed milk. 

The standard size of a tumpi is of 9cm however for Syarikat Masia, it is known for its large-sized tumpi of about 30cm in diameter. 

For the initiative, the Brunei Food Awards and Syarikat Masia managed to make supersized tumpi, measuring one metre wide and weighing about five kilogrammes. 

The attempt was witnessed by the Brunei Book of Records. 

The main objective of the event was to promote food tourism of local food while encouraging the growth of further food related activities in the country. 

In attendance was Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Pg Mohammad Amirrizal Pg Haji Mahmud who was welcomed by CEO of Brunei Food Awards Haji Nasir Dato Latif and Manager of Syarikat Masia Ahmad Haji Matzin. 

Other invited guests include High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam HE Nahida Rahman Shumona, representative of Indonesian Embassy Arinta Puspitasari representing the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia as well as CEO of MIXMEDIAGROUP Azlan Ahmad.
