The Brunei Technology Expo (TechXpo) has kicked off its 6th edition showcasing the industry’s latest products and services as well as the biggest and most-anticipated cybergames tournament in the sultanate.
The four-day event which will end on September 1, features more than 126 vendors from all of the ICT ecosystem’s sectors.
Since its debut in 2010, TechXpo has grown to attract over 50,000 visitors each year that acts as a platform for exhibitors to showcase products, services, trends, developments, and ideas associated with technology from Brunei and all across the globe.
Chairman of InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) Sheikh Hj Abas Sheikh Mohammad said in his opening speech that the expo not only provides consumer electronics but also IT solutions developed by local startups and innovative tools to improve business productivity.
“From the industry outlook, we strongly believe that there are many opportunities await in the digital future,” he said.
He also said that the expo is an excellent platform to provide cutting edge technology to boost productivity and capability for all.
“The show will present the whole spectrum of ICT industry, serving businesses at every level, from established brands to startups and from ICT products and solutions across all sectors,” said the chairman.
Some of the exciting and latest technological items available are such as 3D Printing Machine and an opportunity to interact with humanoid robots Pepper, Tapia and Kinova Ar as well as other booths that display digital health and smart education, among others.
Moreover, visitors can also have some hands-on time with their favorite gadgets such as the latest Acer, Dell, Asus ROG laptops and the latest Canon cameras, among others.
Not just electronic items, the expo also brings in automobiles into Bridex Hall 2 where visitors can have a closer view of the latest automotive technology trends from the vehicles such as the innovative Porsche Macan, the hybrid Lexus LS500h as well as the latest Proton X70 – the first SUV for Proton.
One of the exhibitors, QAF Eurokars, aims to educate the public on the exclusive insight into the technological advancements of the future and propelling the growth of electric cars.
By 2020, QAF Eurokars hopes to launch Porsche’s first electric car, the Taycan EV.
Apart from the main exhibition, TechXpo also hosts the sultanate’s biggest Cyber Games Tournament bringing together 500 cyber-athletes and competitive gamers from across Borneo, managed by Sigma Cyberspace and Brugames Management.
The winning team gets to walk away with a record prize pool of up to $17,000 of cash prizes this year.
According to the organiser D’Sunlit, the prize pool has increased by $2,000 this year and also landing DST as the title sponsor for the tournament
Among the well-known console games at the tournament are DOTA, CS: GO and League of Legends and popular mobile games such as Mobile Legends, and PUBG. Whereas, over on the console area, players get a chance to play the latest Tekken.
What makes the tournament exciting, there is also a giant live stream display showing how the team or player is performing for visitors to watch the nail-biting action and cheer them on in the background.
The games will also be available on a live stream on the Brugames Management Services Facebook page.
Also participating in the event are national agencies such as The Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry (AITI), Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.
