Senior government officials recently visited Kandol in Belait District to assess the flood mitigation and irrigation systems proposed on the new padi commercial site.

Officials from the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) and Ministry of Development (MOD) evaluated the feasibility of developing a spillway to divert excess water to the Belait river which could be useful during rainy season.

The entourage also reviewed the development of the 500-hectare site which is to be operated by private firms including government-linked companies (GLCs) once infrastructures and facilities are ready.

Prior to the tour, the officials were briefed by the head of Agricultural Engineering Services from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood about development plans on the new site followed by a safety briefing from the third battalion of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces officer.

The visit comprised of MPRT Minister Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Ali Apong, MOFE Deputy Minister Dr Haji Abdul Manaf Haji Metussin and MOD Deputy Minister Haji Marzuke Haji Moksin.

Also present were senior officials from the MPRT, MOFE, MOD, Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) and Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) as well as Darussalam Asset.
