The Second Minister of Finance and Economy on Tuesday announced the launch of a real-time application platform that monitors active COVID-19 cases in the sultanate, with a feature that includes information on infections based on districts and mukim slated for the near future.

Speaking during a press conference Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah said that the new platform will enable the public to access the latest developments of the COVID-19 situation in Brunei.

This includes information on the number of active cases, recovered cases, the number of individuals undergoing quarantine and patients who are in critical condition, he continued.

He added that the platform utilizes artificial intelligence (AI), establishing it as a “real-time government dashboard” that not only allows users access to the latest information but also includes online self-screening tools to assess symptoms of the COVID-19.

YB Dato Dr Hj Mohd Amin went on to say that the platform will be an important tool in the government’s efforts in curbing the coronavirus outbreak by utilizing big data science and artificial intelligence algorithms.

Through these two fields, relevant parties can understand “the state of health of the population, how to predict the rate of infection and medical resource mapping” which in turn will contribute to “an effective management system, ensuring proper provisions of the nation’s healthcare equipment and better policies”.

The minister continued that additional features will be added to the platform in the future such as government press releases.

Members of the public can access the new web platform at: http://www.healthinfo.gov.bn/covid19/#/home.

During the press conference YB Dato Dr Hj Mohd Amin also revealed that as of March 24, the COVID-19 Relief Fund had accumulated $330,423.34 from members of the public.

“MoFE would like to thank members of the public that have donated (to the relief fund), and as such we welcome more donations to be made to meet the needs of the COVID-19 outbreak (affecting our country),” he said.
