His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam praised citizens and residents of Brunei for their patience and solid support given towards the government in tackling the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

In a titah at the 17th Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration hosted by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on Thursday, the monarch also reiterated his appreciation especially to frontliners including religious personnel for their contribution and commitment in handling the COVID-19 situation.

“I am proud with the continuous support from all government and private agencies as well as NGOs who actively implement initiatives and immediate actions to ensure the well-being of the community. Well done and thank you to all,” said His Majesty the Sultan.

The monarch further said that there is no denying the pandemic is a test and that behind every test is a lesson that can be taught through patience. It may as well make us aware or encourage us to be more united in the face of challenges or to be creative in empowering ourselves with skills and so on and so forth.

“At this moment, I am happy to welcome participants of this Hari Raya celebration organised by my foundation, comprising of frontliners including religious personnel who broadcasted zikir, prayer and Al-Qur’an recitation programmes on the radio and television,” added the monarch.

He added: “Similarly to medical officers who are directly involved in dealing with pandemic patients, public healthcare officers who have been tirelessly tracing and searching contacts to curb the spread of infection, officers from various agencies and volunteers who have contributed and helped during the challenging time.”

Moreover, His Majesty the Sultan lauded the theme of this year’s Raya celebration “Mensyukuri Nikmat Kesihatan Sebagai Anugerah Allah” (Grateful with the blessings of health as a gift from Allah), corresponding with Knowledge Convention 2020.

“Health is indeed a blessing and priceless gift. In the government’s effort to build the nation, health is also a priority because with a healthy nation then their contributions are hoped to be effective,” added the monarch.

Despite reaching one year without local COVID-19 transmission, the Sultan urged the community to not be complacent and keep on praying to be safe from harm.

His Majesty the Sultan further reminded the people and residents of Brunei to not forget about our brothers and sisters in Palestine who are struggling to defend themselves and their country from enemy’s invasion.

“Imagine, due to the assault, countless innocent civilians including children, women and elderly became victims. Properties and homes were also destroyed. Undoubtedly, this invasion is a cruel act that transcends the purview of humanity,” said the monarch.

The Hari Raya celebration that was held at International Convention Centre (ICC) was also graced by Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam.

Their Majesties were accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Chairman of the Yayasan Committee of Governors of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul ‘Adawiyyah; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Also accompanying Their Majesties were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam and other members of the Royal Family.
