The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with local higher education institutions, in an effort to foster more collaboration in areas of research, resource sharing as well as capacity building.
Four universities took part in the signing ceremony on Tuesday held at the Lecture Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium namely; Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) and the International Graduate Studies College (IGS).

“The MOUs cover various areas of cooperation including research, access to library materials and resources as well as the development of digital technology, information software and innovation,” said Permanent Secretary (Strategy and Policy Management) Pg Hj Mohd Hasnan Pg Hj Ali Hassan.
In his opening remarks, the permanent secretary explained that the MOUs are intended to strengthen the cooperation between MCYS and its strategic partners in relevant areas that are in line with the objectives underscored within the MCYS Strategic Plan 2020-2024.


In line with this, the MOUs will also entail the establishment of a number of programmes including capacity building, job placement opportunities, local youth development as well as socio-economic development through entrepreneurship.
Ultimately, the signing of the MOUs is meant to heed the call of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on the use of a whole-of-nation approach in improving the quality of life of Brunei residents, especially in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).

“With the signing of the MOUs, MCYS will continue to move forward to further enhance cooperation with other strategic partners whether from government agencies the private sector or NGOs,” said Pg Hj Mohd Hassan who signed on behalf of the ministry.
Meanwhile, signing on behalf of the higher education institutions were Dr. Hj Norarfan Hj Zainal, Rector of UNISSA, Dr. Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Dr. Hj Adanan Hj Basar, Ra’es of KUPUSB and Dr. Azaharaini Hj Mohd Jamil, CEO of IGS College.
The signing of the MOUs was witnessed by the guest of honour, MCYS Minister, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan POKSM DSP Hj Abidin.
