Super League and FA Cup defending champions, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) and Kota Ranger FC will kick-off their season with a Charity Cup slated to take place tomorrow.
The Sumbangsih Cup (Charity Shield) 2020 serves as an opening of the Super League and will see teams competing at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium from 8.15pm onwards.
This was announced by the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Media Officer, Waqiuddin Abdul Haq Haji Abdul Rajak during a press conference earlier today.
Speaking to the media at the NFABD House, MS ABDB Team Manager, Major (U) Muhd Nur Aidi Hj Abdul Razak said the Super League is more challenging as of late with additional teams competing.
Previously, 10 teams participated in the championship instead of the current 16 including Kasuka FC, Wijaya FC, Indera SC, MS PPDB, Lin Bawang, Setia Perdana, Bakes along with newcomers DPMM FC, Panchor Murai, Rimba Star, BSRC, Tabuan Academy and KB FT.
“Despite that, we will be working hard to get through the challenges and look forward to the league as well as tomorrow night’s game,” said Major (U) Muhd Nur Aidi.
Sharing the same sentiment, MS ABDB Captain Mohammad Khairul Mee Mail said the team has made necessary preparations for the Cup and aim to give their best performance.
Kota Ranger FC is equally preparing for the match and intends to bring their best players forward, according to Manager, Md Nazib Hj Ali.
Additionally, the team’s captain, Adi Said, hopes to bring home the cup and anticipates a good match between the teams.
“We will do our best and hopefully receive the outcome we are looking for,” he said.
The Brunei Super League is scheduled to start on February 28 where each team is allowed to play at least 30 games with two rounds of matches throughout the season.
The under-16 and under-19 youth leagues will take place in March and are expected to end by September.
Meanwhile, the FA Cup will begin sometime in June while the Brunei Futsal League to be held after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
