BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy continued its second group A match at the Track and Field Hassanal Bokiah Sports Complex, where two time HBT winner, Thailand, managed to salvage a point against the 2014 winner, Myanmar, in a thrilling 1-1 draw.
Thailand suffered an early setback as one of the defenders, Sansanit Kittipong, was injured 20 minutes into the game. Myanmar looked more like the attacking side throughout the game with quick wing play and could have gotten more goals if not for Thailands number 1, Phone Thitsar Min, and the cross bar.
The opening goal was scored in the 66th minute after Thailand defense failed to clear a cross. Myanmar pacey midfielder, Hein Htet Aung, was then able to hold control of the ball, cut inside the penalty box and hit the ball hard into the net.
Thailand finally made the equalizer deep into injury time. A good cross from Jaiphet Anusak was met by T. Sirimongkol, who then fired home a powerful left foot strike. Despite Myanmar’s dominance, the score remained 1-1 at full time.
Leading the table for Group A is Timor Leste with 3 points. Group B will see its first match tonight at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, with Laos playing against Singapore.
