New Lexus ES aims to wow younger audience

The Lexus ES has evolved drastically since it was first introduced 30 years ago, with a shift in focus towards appealing a much younger audience.

With the launch of the new 2019 Lexus ES 250, the younger generation would be much more interested in the design and performance than the quiet elegance the Lexus is best known for. Lexus challenges those tradition with its bolder and aggressive designs.

The 2019 Lexus ES captivates with its “provocative elegance”. Aesthetically, it is more daring and louder compared to its previous predecessor.

Complete with Lexus’ bold signature theme, which is characterised by the polarising “spindle” grille and creased shapes. Most noticeable is the sharpened wrap-around tail lights.

Buyers can choose between 12 different exterior colours for the latest ES. New additional colours include Moonbeam Beige Metallic and Sunlit Green.

In terms of dimension, the new model is longer, wider and lower compared to its previous predecessor and it has been designed with the proportions of a coupe-like premium sedan, giving the ES an extra layer of sportiness without compromising interior space.

The interior space featured exactly the level of quality one would expect from a Lexus with its unmatched craftsmanship. The rear seats are incredibly spacious and comfortable, with more than ample legroom.

If there is one thing the ES and the younger generation have in common, it’s the tech savviness.

A wealth of standard technology and safety features adds to the ES’ value.

The ES is equipped with technology that lets smartphones double up as navigation and entertainment devices. The 12.3-inch infotainment system is operated by touchpad and voice-recognition technology.

It’s also first model to introduce the Apple Carplay, enabling drivers to control their iPhones through the display screen.

As far as audio goes, the ES is equipped with a 10-speaker Pioneer audio system. If you want higher quality sound, there’s also the optional 17-speaker Mark Levinson system.

As for safety features, the Lexus ES comes with a full deck of active safety features including the automatic emergency braking, road sign recognition and pedestrian and bicycle detection.

For the Brunei market, NBT is bringing in two versions of the Lexus ES – the ES 250 and ES 300h, which is the hybrid model of the range.

The ES 250 is powered by a 2.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine featuring Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT i) whereas the ES 300h is propelled by Lexus fourth-generation Hybrid Drive System, improving in both in power and fuel efficiency.

Muhammad Clovien Abdullah Timpoh, Marketing Manager of NBT, said that Brunei is the first country in the ASEAN region to launch the 2019 Lexus ES.

“Combining with the the bolder design, driving dynamics and advanced technology, we feel that the ES is meant for a much more younger audience,” he said during the official launch of the 2019 Lexus ES at NBT’s showroom in Gadong last week.

“Lexus isn’t just about cars anymore, it’s about the experience of the journey. This is the direction where Lexus Brunei is heading.

“Our goal is not just about selling cars, it’s about selling a lifestyle,” He added.
