Out in the rough and challenging terrains of Kampung Maraburong in the Tutong District, the All-New Nissan Terra 4WD was an absolute beast to drive, conquering six intense challenges.
Boustead, the sole distributor of Nissan, recently hosted the Nissan Terra ‘Rough & Tough’ off-road for media and enthusiasts to test the powerful capabilities of the vehicle.
The Nissan Terra went through slope curve, hill ascent, log crawling, hill descent, water test and articulation test – definitely an exhilarating experience.
The Bruneian team started off the drive with the slope curve session where we powered through effortlessly with the help of Terra’s unrelenting 2.5-litre turbo Diesel engine.
There was never a moment when we felt short for power tackling the rough and winding trails.
During the session, participants get to understand the capability of the vehicle’s turning radius in sharp corners.
The Nissan Terra is captivating in design with its Kenstyle body kit giving the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) an aggressive and sportier make-over although, its true potential and prowess are demonstrated behind the wheel.
Another highlight was how the good steering felt during the 30-degree slope curve session. Its light steering and good feedback were easy to manoeuvre.
Turn after turn, the mid-size SUV surprises with its impressive ride quality and assured handling.
Up next was the hill ascend session, where we were able to test out the Hill Start Assist at a 40-degree incline.
The hill start assist comes in handy especially when you stopped on an incline. It keeps the Terra from rolling backwards by holding the brake for two to three seconds, giving drivers ample time and confidence.
Moreover, going down hills also proved to be easy, thanks to the hill-descent control (HDC) feature. This way, the driver can completely leave control of the downhill speed to the car.
Meanwhile, the Terra further proved its off-road capabilities in the articulation test and log crawling sessions.
The four-wheel-drive is equipped with Achilles Extreme Mud Terrain (XMT) tyres that are aggressive and high-void tread pattern, optimised for traction on all off-road conditions
The Nissan Terra’s ladder-frame chassis and multi-link coil spring rear suspension system also plays is a huge part of the magic.
The suspension allows the Terra to cruise effortlessly across undulating terrain and impressively absorb the holes and rocks throughout the course.
In addition, the Terra delivers plenty of low-end torque to keep it going.
During the obstacle course, what’s impressive was the Nissan Terra’s comfort, which was felt by both driver and passengers.
We also found the cabin to be very quiet in all situations. No matter where you seat, it’s clear that the seven-seater is all about premium quality.
For our final obstacle, we had the Terra wade through 800mm depth of water; the midsize SUV is a machine built to stand the flooding season.
Upon arrival at the water course, we were told to switch to four-wheel drive low where we had to maintain a steady 30km/h pace to prevent the car from sinking into the wet muddy ground.
Some sliding was expected, but a quick correction of the wheel and steering was all it took to climb the slippery surface.
Executive Manager of Boustead Lim Jin Lee expressed his excitement towards Nissan Intelligent Mobility technology’s development in the Nissan Terrra.
The event aimed at creating awareness particularly in vehicle performance, comfort and safety driving with the advance of NIM (Nissan Intelligent Mobility) features and technologies that Nissan has to offer.
Overall, the all-new Nissan Terra is the perfect blend of technology, top-in-class engine performance and off-road performance, allowing drivers to take on any challenge with confidence
