Readymix Concrete yesterday sent off some 22 members of the Brunei National Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR) for Thailand to compete in the upcoming Narathiwat Dragon Boat Race.

The race which will take place from September 19 to 22 at Tha Phra Ya Sai Pavilion is an annual event extended to the local team by the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand.

“We have been in this sport for several years already and claimed top places in competitions held in Kedah, Sarawak and Bali under the master and open categories,” said one of the participants, Hj Mohammad Hafizan.

Talking about the differences between the dragon boat race and the local regatta, he said: “Different in terms of shape of the boat and a proper racing track but the (race) concept is similar.”

Dragon boat racing is a human-powered watercraft that requires extensive training and focus to master which body is usually made of fiberglass and equipped with decorative dragon heads and tails.

For Readymix, the company has always been keen towards giving back to the community through providing support to such initiative.

The company’s representatives Zara Laila Abdul Hadi and Nurul Nabilah Ma’arof were also present at the airport prior to flight departure.
