
Petronas Carigali Brunei Ltd (PCBL) in collaboration with the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, and Green Brunei recently planted 1000 trees in conjunction with PCBL’s Environmental Day.
The event themed “Trees for the Future” had 250 participants involved in the tree planting activity which took place at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park.
During the event, 1,000 saplings comprising five different species namely ‘Kapur Paji’, ‘Sarang Punai’, ‘Sarang Punai Bukit’, ‘Selangan Daun Tebal’ and ‘Kapur Bukit’ were planted by the participants.

The location was chosen for the purpose of reforestation and to combat climate change.
Moreover, the participants also included students from International School Brunei (ISB) and University Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
In addition to the tree planting, the Forestry Department also demonstrated the proper handling of the saplings.
PCBL’ s Country Head of Brunei, Mohamad Othman said in his speech that in line with their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments, PETRONAS carries out environmental activities on a yearly basis to show their strong commitment in conserving and protecting the environment.

Further adding that at the same time, raising environmental awareness among the public in Brunei.
“We hope that this event will inspire more youth to participate in future environmental activities organised by PCBL or other institutions.” he said.
Also present at the event were the Guest of Honour, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Hj Kamalrudzaman Pg Hj Mohd Ishak, Head of International and Regional Relations Unit of Forestry Department Joffre Hj Ali and the Legislative Council Member, who is also the Co-Founder and Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei YB Khairunnisa Awg Hj Ash’ari.
