The all-new Porsche Cayenne might just be the right fit for those looking to have a sophisticated SUV that combines both luxury and sportiness.

At first it might be difficult to establish what has been improved and what remained, as the third generation looks almost the same like its predecessor.

It was only after taking it to the road that we were able to see an improved sense of navigation – its handling, stability and comfort, all speaks the language that made Porsche one of the world’s powerhouse name.

Members of the media were recently invited by QAF Eurokars, Brunei’s sole distributor for Porsche to test the car from Tarindak D’Seni to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAS) Bridge to see how well it could perform on the go.

Spotting the difference between the new model and its predecessor may be difficult at first sight, because the changes were quite subtle.

When it comes to design, the Cayenne speaks fluent Porsche and wherever you look, the SUV exudes the signature Porsche design language — bold and distinctive.

While the front-end styling is not radically different to its previous model, the subtly reworked body includes dramatic horizontal light edges giving the SUV an unmistakable road presence and contribute to a strong and individual identity within the growing Porsche model range.

The pure, sculptural forms of the Cayenne create a predatory stance, while the 911-inspired wheel setup adds a touch of athleticism. No doubt, a head-turner.

Inside, the level of comfort in the driving seat was one of the first thing we noticed when driving the streamlined four-seater.

Thanks to the spacious leather-lined and hand-stitched interiors, and beyond-comfortable seats that you can happily sink into on a long drive.

Moreover, the materials throughout the cabin are rich and handsomely accented with high-quality leather.

The centerpiece of the dash takes inspiration from the Porsche Panamera complete with a large 12-3 inch touchscreen as well as two 7-inch screens on the instrument panel.

In other words, the attention to detail, style and quality of each accessory reveal the very essence of the Porsche brand.

Impressing without efforts

“Effortless” seems to be the Cayenne’s calling card as minutes, at least it seemed so with the confidence and stability it projected minutes into the test drive.

The presence of sports, off-roader and touring modes which are also present in all Porsche models gave drivers choices to set the car to their desired paces.

It was also impressive that the 2.9 litre V6 Bi-Turbo powered car could maintain its gentle cruise, even at a highway speed that goes about 100km/h – it could even deliver quick shifts and responses despite going that fast.

In a way, the SUV handles like a dream, hugging every corner and absorbing every bump in the road with ease.

The SUV comes with an array of advanced safety feature that work together to provide an overhead on what is going on around the car and a big help for parking.

Overall, the all-new Porsche Cayenne offers the perfect combination of exclusive design and exceptional functionality.

Thanks to the meticulous attention to the performance and aesthetics by Porsche, the Cayenne is a treat to drive, to ride in and to behold.
