Progresif Cellular (Progresif) has announced the launch of its 4G+ network with speeds tenfold faster than 3G, reaching a maximum of 80Mbps.
The telco in a statement said that the upgrade is the first of a number of changes in upcoming developments for its network users.
Corporate Communications Manager of Progresif Hafiza Mohamad said that during testing works which began two weeks ago, average speeds between 25 and 30Mpbs and as high as 80Mbps+ were recorded.
“While 4G+ is among the most anticipated announcements from Progresif, we are also happy to announce that customers will be able to bring their mobile number when they switch their service to Progresif,” she said.
The company also said that another upcoming change customers can expect is new mobile plans.
These plans, the statement added, will alter the prices and payment structures, delivering greater value across an expanding suite of products.
The products include Fibre Broadband to the home, public Wi-Fi access and a new content streaming app called Progresif Media that will host the best of local, regional and Hollywood film, video and audio content, as well as many other new developments.
The statement added there has been much anticipation of what is to come for consumers following the announcement and formation of Unified National Network.
“While the public has been made aware of anticipated benefits, there has been little information to date on the specifics of the enhancements to come,” it said.
Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Progresif Hjh Nurul Haniah Haji Jaafar said that Progresif has always been more than just a mobile provider with its mission statement since day one is about connecting people and empowering them.
“This next evolution of our business helps us to take the next critical steps in delivering even greater innovation while providing world class services backed by a stronger and growing network,” she said.
“Our customers’ support on this journey will allow us to give back even more to the community through our products and services and our CSR programmes. We are excited to be bringing 4G+ to our loyal customers and look forward to welcoming so many more in the coming months,” added the acting CEO.
Since its launch in late 2014, Progresif has seen exponential growth with their customer base increasing from 20,000 up to 200,000 by mid-2019.
It has delivered on their promise to bring innovation through a suite of diversified products and services, and a number of firsts for the Sultanate with their expansion into Fintech, Media & Entertainment.
Some of its recent milestones are being the first telco to develop a mobile wallet, a mobile radio station and creating an event promotion and ticketing portal, Progresif Events. – Analisa Amu
