Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) launched its inaugural flight to RB Link’s new destination to Bintulu yesterday.
The national carrier’s ATR 72-600 aircraft which is operated by Malindo Air arrived at Bintulu Airport at 8.25pm last night and was welcomed with a water cannon salute.
RB’s Senior Vice President of Digital & Marketing James Millett said the new connection is another important and exciting move towards RB’s goal to provide effortless travel within Borneo and beyond.
“We are delighted to introduce Bintulu as our next destination in Phase one of the RB Link regional initiative connecting cities and towns within Borneo,” he said.
“Bintulu and its neighbouring towns will benefit from our value pricing and five-star full-service product as well as seamless connections through Brunei to many international markets such as China, Japan, UK and Australia which offer great tourism and export opportunities.”
Millett added that RB is proud to be the first international airline to fly to the coastal town.
The RB Link flights to Bintulu will operate five times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
According to Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airports Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, as of September 2019, Bintulu airport recorded a 23.6 per cent increase in passenger movement compared to 2018.
“With this new international route to Bintulu, I believe Royal Brunei will further strengthen the growing demands between these two destinations and elevate the tourism industry for Sarawak,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board Sharzede Datu Hj Salleh Askor noted that the partnership is timely and heading in the right direction.
“Sarawak tourism sees this as a strategic partnership with Royal Brunei in the promotion of Sarawak on the Visit Sarawak Campaign,” she said.
She added that the new route will give tourists and visitors a chance to experience new and diverse products and destinations while simultaneously provide opportunities for outbound tourists from Bintulu and the business communities another hub meeting their travelling needs.
Present as the guest of honour during the launching ceremony hosted by Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad in partnership with Sarawak Tourism, was Bintulu District Officer Muhammad Dino Amid.
Also in attendance was the Senior Manager Route Development, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, Zainuddin Mohamed; officials from Sarawak Tourism Board, Hj Mohamad Ibrahim Nordin and Hj Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.
