Sixty children consisting of orphans and children with disabilities had a memorable iftar aboard a Boeing 787 Dreamliner after receiving donations courtesy of national flag carrier Royal Brunei Airlines (RB).

During a ceremony held at the departure gate of the Brunei International Airport (BIA) yesterday, 43 orphans and 17 children with disabilities from families of RB staff were presented with donations from RB’s Chairman Dato Seri Paduka Dr Hj Abd Manaf Hj Metussin and RB’s CEO Hj Khalidkhan Hj Asmakhan.

In his welcoming remarks Hj Khalidkhan shared that despite the challenges faced by the national carrier due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline continues to remain resilient, adapting to the new normal in order to perform their duties and responsibilities.

“This includes our initiative to provide exclusive assistance to those who are in need, by visiting the homes of orphans and presenting them with donations as was done during Ramadhan and Syawal of 2020,” he said.

This year, however, RB’s event to provide alms to joy to families and children that deserve it took an interesting turn as this year’s recipients were invited aboard RB’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner to enjoy their breaking of the fast.

“I hope that today’s event would become a happy memory for our guests,” he added.

The CEO went on to reiterate RB’s efforts in strengthening its roles in supporting the local community, which included their active participation in Dikir Maulud ceremonies and recently, a cleaning campaign for the Muslim cemetery in Kg Kianggeh.

“Apart from this, RB also collaborated with the national youth volunteering body in Brunei to distribute donations and essential packages for the month of Ramadhan and Syawal to the less fortunate, especially orphas and those who are less fortunate in all four districts,” he continued.

The event was organised in collaboration with the Department of Civil Aviation, Royal Brunei Culinary and Savvys Restaurant and was attended by RB’s Board of Directors, RB management and staff as well as other invited guests.
