Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports has urged the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) to rebrand all of its libraries nationwide to be in-line with the current technological developments.

Yang Berhormat Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin urged DBP to re-define its libraries to ensure that they remain relevant as a platform to strengthen the reading culture among youths.

Among what he suggested was to establish a library café, and to remodel its environment into a centre for the development of creative arts.

He made these remarks during the launching of the 20th annual Book Fair at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

A large number of book lovers including students thronged the Indoor Stadium to browse over the literary works offered by sellers from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman and Jordan.

Hosting more than 60 booths, the one-week event will also be featuring Omani cultural performances and activities.

Among those present at the launching event were Permanent Secretary at the MCYS Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information at the Sultanate of Oman Ali bin Khalfan Al-Jabri, members of the Legislative Council and other members of the Diplomatic Corps in Brunei.
