Royal Brunei Airlines names new Executive General Manager Operations

ROYAL Brunei Airlines (RB) has appointed its new Executive General Manager (EGM) – Operations Captain Saiful Bahrin Awg Hj Bahar, leading key departments in the airline.

The departments related to the national carrier operations are namely, Engineering, Flight Operations, Cabin Services, Ground Services and Operations Control Centre.

The appointment of Captain Saiful, who was promoted from a pilot rank to an executive management level, is in line with RB’s talent management strategy that places strong emphasis on succession planning and leadership development of its local staff.

RB’s Chief Executive Officer Karam Chand in a statement said that the airline is proud to have Captain Saiful as part of the Executive Management team who has vast experience.

“We are positive that he will successfully lead our operations team to even greater heights. Captain Saiful has the enviable job of introducing eight new aircrafts and supporting crew this year. His appointment should also inspire young Bruneians who wish to take up careers in the corporate world. Hard work, determination and well charted career path will always lead to success in whatever career you choose,” he said.

Karam added: “We want to continue supporting our Bruneian colleagues to build on their knowledge, skills and competencies and effectively contribute in the different aspects of RB’s business”.

Captain Saiful joined as a Cadet Pilot in 1995 and became the youngest pilot in RB to be successfully promoted as a Captain in 2005. He holds a United Kingdom ATPL pilot license and is a qualified GBR EASA Type Rating Instructor (TRI) and Type Rating Examiner (TRE) on Boeing 787 aircraft.

He also held various administrative roles within Flight Operations including Chief Pilot, Deputy Fleet Manager B777 and Airbus Technical Captain with his last post as EGM -Corporate Risk.

Moreover, he was awarded a state decoration The Most Blessed Order of Loyalty to the State of Brunei. He has been inducted as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical and Engineering Society (UK) in 2017.

Captain Saiful has also recently completed his Executive Masters of Business and Administration in Aviation and Air Transport Management from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in April 2018.
