Team \x00 hacked their way to the top spot at this year’s Cyber Battle: Capture the Flag, taking home the competition’s B$3,000 cash prize after capturing the most flags in a grueling seven-hour session.
Organised by the IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), Cyber Battle is an annual event that sees competing teams of hackers break into systems to earn flags, which are then converted into points. The team with the most points wins the tourney.
The winning three-men team scored 575 points, beating nine other contestants. The runner ups are team PalingMuncit, who scored 375 points, and team Sleuth who managed to capture 300 points worth of flags.
Speaking with The Bruneian, the team members of \x00 (pronounced Null Byte), viewed the competition as a platform to challenge their skills as well as to network with other top hackers in Brunei.
“It is an avenue for us to show to the world that Brunei too has its own pool of hackers who could help in strengthening its cyber line of defense,” they said.

Now in its fourth edition, the competition is aimed to identify and develop Brunei’s hacking talents who could potentially boost the country’s defence capabilities against cyber threats.
Presenting the prizes to the winners was the Permanent Secretary (Security and Enforcement) at the Prime Minister’s Office, Lieutenant Colonel (rtd) Pg Hj Muhd Sazali Pg Hj Yakob.
The event took place at Wafa Hotel at Annajat Complex in Beribi.
