Ten volunteers from Standard Chartered Bank (SC) Brunei partnered with Green Brunei yesterday to clean up Tungku beach as part of the Bank’s corporate social responsibilities.
About 20 rubbish bags and 400 plastic bottles were collected in an effort to beautify Brunei’s natural landscape and to ensure that the beaches remain clean.
Ensuring that the environment is protected and nurtured is part of Standard Chartered’s sustainability values, said Debbie Too, Chairperson of the Standard Chartered Bank Recreation Club.
“The Bank has always encouraged its employees to volunteer and organise activities that centre around the environment and this volunteering activity is a testament to the Bank’s commitment to Brunei’s natural environment,” Too added.
Upon arrival at the beach, the volunteers first met up with Green Brunei to educate themselves on the importance of keeping Brunei’s beaches clean. They were then given rubbish bags and grouped up with Green Brunei individuals to collect left over trash on the beach.
The Standard Chartered Recreation Club is made up of a committee appointed by the employees of Standard Chartered Bank.
Each committee serves a one-year term which involves organising internal events and communications targeting environment, health, diversity and inclusion, social and sports.
