Members of the public can now donate to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam (Pusat Ehsan) in just a few clicks with the recently launched charity module featured in the local online payment gateway MyBillPayment.
During a launch event held at Pusat Ehsan’s Rehabilitation Block, it was revealed that the new charity module of the MyBillPayment mobile application had already amassed $1,103 worth of donations, having gone live for more than a month.
Simon Leong, a member of the Pusat Ehsan Management Committee told local media that the collaboration with app developer ThreeG Media is hoped to enable more funds to be donated to the organisation.
“Organisations such as us need a lot of funding to run, it’s not enough for us to organise one or two fundraising events because the operating cost is very high, so we would need something that is recurring,” said Leong.
Pusat Ehsan is a non-profit NGO that provides special education, training, care and rehabilitative services to persons with disabilities.
Currently, 230 students are enrolled under the centre’s Bengkurong branch with an additional 60 students enrolled at their Kuala Belait branch.
“We hope that more members of the public would download this app and donate to us, whether its $1 or $2, the value doesn’t matter because it’s the volume of people donating that is important,” he added.
The launch event was then followed by a Chinese New Year celebration where local volunteer group BLIA proceeded to donate $1,800 to the centre which was received by Acting Chairman of Pusat Ehsan, Dato Paduka Mohd Alimin Hj Abd Wahab.
The event also saw red packets and gifts being distributed to students enrolled under Pusat Ehsan. Attending the event as the guest of honour was Legislative Council Member Iswandy Ahmad.
The MyBillPayment is a free mobile app that is available on iOS and Android. Members of the public who wish to donate or seek more info, they can check out Pusat Ehsan’s website at www.pusatehsan.org.bn
