Brunei Darussalam has reported its first fatality of the COVID-19 pandemic, a 64-year-old Bruneian who passed away at the National Isolation Centre (NIC) on Friday, 8.20pm.
This was announced by the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham Hj Jaafar at a special press conference this morning.
According to the minister, the deceased was case 25 and a local man who was admitted to the NIC on March 12.
This was following the deceased’s return from Kuala Lumpur and Cambodia on March 4.
The deceased began to experience symptoms on March 8 and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on March 16.
“In this regard, in order to maintain and respect the deceased as well as the family’s confidentiality, the Ministry of Health will not share his personal details,” added the minister.
He then reminded the public to also be mindful and show respect during this tragic time.
On behalf of the ministry, YB Dato Dr Hj Md Isham proceeded to offer condolences to the family of the deceased.
