Thailand lost their chance to secure a spot in the semi finals of the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy after a 1-1 draw against Timor Leste.
Thailand was gifted an early goal at the 3rd minute after Timor Leste’s goalkeeper, Fagio Augusto Da Silva, only managed to parry the ball away from Sansanit Kittipong’s volley. Thailand’s forward, Phaphirom Pithak, then managed to bundle the ball over the line.
Moments later the forward had another chance to get his second goal in, but was unable to meet a dangerous low cross from Wisetchat Nakin.
Timor Leste’s best chance came when Rufino Walter Gama was left unmarked but the forward headed the ball well wide of the post in the 2nd half.
The final 10 minutes saw Timor Leste pushing hard for the equalizer. Finally the equalizer came at 9 minutes into injury time, after Jaiphet Anusak fouled Silveiro Da Resureicao just outside Thailand’s penalty box. Rufino Walter Gama took the freekick pass the Thailand’s goalkeeper hand.
The match ended with a 1-1 draw, knocking Thailand out of the tournament. The match between Brunei against Myanmar on Monday 30th April will determine which team will go through the semi finals.
