Take a break from your daily commute and fuel up with local homegrowns The Thirsty Habit and Eat’s Hot – serving you an assortment of thirst-quenching beverages and juicy hot wings.
The newly opened establishment which houses the two local brands is located at Mar’azmala Petrol Station in Jerudong with humble store space that is ideal for both dine-ins and take-aways.
The Thirsty Habit has over 40 drinks in its menu that are created based on local favourites and the founder’s personal touch.
“We came up with a few drinks based on what Bruneians like such as the Bandung Grass Jelly and Onde-Onde Milk Tea. I’ve been working on the menu since November last year…” said Nisaa, the founder of The Thirsty Habit, who previously opened a bubble milk tea franchise at the same venue.
There are six drink varieties to choose from namely; Thirsty Milk Teas, Milky Specials, Tea, Blended, Fruity and Coffee – leaving you spoiled for choice.
From the milk tea selection, among the must-haves are the Bubble Milk tea, Caramel Milk Tea, Hazelnut Milk Tea as well as the Bandung Grass Jelly and Onde-Onde Milk Tea.
If you prefer a milk-based beverage, then you may try their Horlicks Milk and Matcha Mousse, most recommended items from the Milky Specials category.
Perhaps you can go a little extra with your drinks by having their Blended drinks like the Taro Smoothie, Bandung Smoothie and Coffee Smoothie – the finely crushed ice is a relief for a hot day.
Try their Ribena Bubbles, Mango Bubbles or Peach Black Tea for a light and fruity taste but if you want to go cleaner, go for the Jasmine Green Tea, Brewed Black Tea and Honey Tea.
For coffee lovers, there is something for you as well – Americano, Latte, Hazelnut Latte, Caramel Latte and Hazelnut.
Moreover, what makes their bubble milk tea different is the golden boba used as toppings and condiments in the beverage.
“The golden boba has a lighter texture compared to the ones used in bubble milk tea. It is something different that is not here yet… so that’s the reason why (we use golden boba),” she said.
The beverages are priced ranging from $2.50 to $6.
Talking about Bruneians’ preference based on her previous franchise experience, she noted that there is a trend opting for a healthier choice.
“People love their drinks sweet but I see that many Bruneians now are more health-conscious. We had customers ordering up to 120% sugar level. Now, some go for no sugar and we keep them into consideration for our menu,” said Nisaa, adding that there is a drink for everyone.
Meanwhile, sharing the space with The Thirsty Habit, Eat’s Hot offers fried chicken wings that are coated with signature homemade hot sauces specially created by its founder, Ida Matnoor.
“I was inspired by the story of an international franchise where they make sauces from African chillies. So, I thought, why not make something similar using our own local chillies,” said the lover of spicy food.
The five signature flavours are Buttery Hot, Asian Hot, Honey Hot, Mustard Hot and Cheesy Hot while they also have Cheesy sauce for kids.
You can choose either ala carte or combo for the signature wingettes and drumettes for six cuts, 10 cuts and 50 cuts with a choice of plain/butter rice or plain/hot chips for a combo meal.
For extras, you can have add-on such as plain or butter rice, plain or hot chips and extra sauce – at just $1 each.
Moreover, not just wingettes and drumettes to compliment your bubble milk tea, the local brand also serves pasta which sauces are also based on the hot flavours.
There are the Buttery Hot Spaghetti, Creamy Buttery Hot Spaghetti, Cheesy Hot Spaghetti as well as Cheesy Spaghetti, each available in ala carte, combo and party pack.
Each combo comes with two cuts of wingettes and drumettes.
Talking about their collaboration, Nisaa, the founder of The Thirsty Habit said that Ida’s experience and passion are qualities she looked for in a business partner.
“She knows what she is doing as she is decisive and a perfectionist like me so she is passionate about what she is doing. I want to serve good food so it also helps the business,” she said.
