Tourism leaders recently met at the Global Tourism Forum – Leaders Summit Asia discussing on the future of tourism and policies from various countries to restart the industry as well as investment opportunities in ASEAN and Asia.

The hybrid event took place in Jakarta, Indonesia and it was a collaboration between Indonesia Tourism Forum (ITF) and the World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI) from 15 – 16 September 2021.

Brunei was led by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali Apong who joined the forum virtually.

Other issues were also discussed during the two-day forum including tourism achievements amid the pandemic, policy impacts on future tourism; the impact of media on tourism recovery, the value of eco-tourism in COVID-19, transformation of tourism industry under women leadership and new sustainable tourism impacts in post pandemic.

On hand to deliver the opening speech was Vice President of Indonesia Professor Ma’ruf Amin.

The forum which was supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy was attended by Tourism Ministers from ASEAN, representatives from United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and prominent leaders and international experts, strategists and technologists in travel industry, travel agencies and tour operators, businesses, investment groups and bankers, investment consultancy companies, politicians, senior executives and public authorities, particularly those from ASEAN and Asia.

Also present virtually was Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Hajah Tutiaty Haji Abdul Wahab, and senior officials from the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. – Analisa Amu
