The Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) has upgraded its mobile application, TransportBN to provide users with more than just information on all modes of transportation in Brunei Darussalam.
Its recent upgrade which took effect on July 1, provides users with the option to renew their driver’s as well as vehicle licenses.
Speaking during a recent press conference at the Ministry of Health, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohammad Yusof said this includes licenses that have been expired for more than a month.
“The new function allows users to additionally pay the late penalty charges online.”
He called on the public to continue using the online services and mobile app provided by the ministry, aimed to provide convenience without having to go to the service counters of the Land Transport Department (LTD) or specific postal services branches.
“Alhamdulillah, so far 26,710 users have downloaded TransportBN and it is hoped that this number will continue to increase.”
“However, the use of the app is still low when compared to the potential that can be achieved from utilising it or completing things online.”
YB Dato Abdul Mutalib said this is in view of the fact that there are 243,844 active driving license holders nationwide.
“To date, a total of 16,085 individuals have renewed their driver’s license and vehicle license online using the mobile app from March to June 2020 compared to 3,440 individuals in March to June 2019.”
“This indicates a favourable increase – five times more applicants received through TransportBN,” the minister added.
YB Dato Abdul Mutalib said Push SMS will be sent in stages to encourage the public to continue using the TransportBN mobile app which can be downloaded via Google Play for Android users and App Store for iOS users.
“Let us carry out (our) social responsibilities and utilise options that are more accessible and convenient.”
